Bad attitudes

The way we behave is a reflection of our thinking.

If we don’t respect God, then we won’t be listening to him speak to us (read the Bible) or spending time talking to him (prayer) we will not respect Christians, and therefore treat them quite badly, and cause pain and even fear.

Perhaps we want to feel comfortable in a situation, and so force our ideas on others, intimidate them and “let them know who’s boss .”

This is not Gods way. Jesus walked his life on Earth with total humility- relying on God, rather than his own strategies and devices. So God kept his obedient son, and honoured him above all things.

Pride is in us all, and if we let it rule us, we will fall and fail, and ultimately we will be shown to be foolish.

We need to follow Gods way, and learn to rely on him, not our own wit, which is faulty anyway.

“Humble yourself under Gods will for you, and he will lift you up , when the time is right.”

Don’t worry…

JESUS said; “Do not save up the things you want from this earth- they get destroyed. Keep safe the things that will last forever in heaven.”
“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Matthew 6

These words run against what we hear every day on TV, and other media. This world tells us to run after its “great” stuff, but we all know it all get broken eventually.

If we follow this worlds way, we will, be full of worry and fretting about what we have or haven’t got.

Be wise- seek out things that no one can take from you.

This amazing man, who discovered pattern and order in nature, never found the creative mind behind it all…

The Races

Watching a bike race from the side of the road is quite an experience. The actual time that the riders pass by is a few seconds, but waiting for hours beforehand is good and the people that gather are in a happy mood.

Many were dressed for taking part in the race. Lycra- clad and wearing rainbow glasses for sports events, looking just like the competitors on the road. But, of course, they were not really in the race at all. They just look the part and have easily blended in wearing their bike gear.

We can be like that too- just looking like we are Christians and trying to live the life as best we can. But it is only surface, only spiritual Lycra, that doesn’t affect our inner person. God sees and knows who are really his people, and we need to be sure we are true and our faith goes further than our outward behaviour.

Get in the race- for real…

Testify

When we read the words of JESUS, it is utterly outrageous that he should expect us to live as he says. His way of doing things doesn’t work in the “real” world, and I won’t survive very long if I really do what he did, and do what he says I should.

Love my enemies! Pray for people who hurt me! Give people what they ask for and don’t ask for it back! If someone takes my stuff- let them have it!!

TURN THE OTHER CHEEK!!!

So if the bullies hit me, I just take it… This is too much. I will end up with nothing and everyone will take advantage of me.

JESUS walked this Earth and kept to these truths, even though many people did hate him, and despised him, and in the end they had him killed. He was beaten up so badly, that you couldn’t tell who he was… he let them do it, because he trusted himself to God and knew that God would vindicate him in the end.

He died for loves sake, love for cruel us, and demonstrated the opposite life – not man’s life but God’s life. We can walk this way too, but only in FAITH and LOVE for him who loved us first.

Unexpected

When someone does a kind thing for us, it makes us feel valued and even loved.

Something unexpected, gives a kind of thrill, that we remember and helps us to have that feeling of belonging.

What is the most unexpected event that has every happened? An event that no one was looking for, or would have dreamed about in a million years…

The Eternal God became a human being, and lived his perfect life among sinful people he had made, so that he could rescue them from punishment. Then something even more unexpected happened… he gave up his life, dying in agony, to pay that terrible cost for the rescue of such worthless beings.

Even more unexpected… he came back to life… and he can raise to life all who confess their sins and believe in Him.

Most unexpected of all. He can change us completely and make us ready for heaven, and he will be with us through all our lives, changing us, until we get there.

Heaven… that will then become the most unexpected place of all..!!
