The Lion is the Lamb

Revelation-5-5
And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside.”

This Revelation picture shows a situation at the end of all things, where there is no goodness great enough to judge all things. The Apostle John sees this and sheds tears because all that is good seems to be completely overcome.

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”

One of the elders in heaven comforts him, that the might LION of the tribe of JUDAH will overcome. The LION is a picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of all things, the top of the hierarchy of all being. He has conquered  all evil and all who oppose God.

Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing at the center of the throne”

This LION is also a LAMB. The lion that overcame by His great power, shows that power to be the seeming weakness of the lamb. The lamb that deliberately gave Himself on the cross, to be beaten, tortured and destroyed, is now the Lamb upon the throne of all time and eternity.

“And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

And He remains forever, the eternal and glorious God, putting away all evil and those who deliberately follow evil, and establishing a reign of glory and holiness. All His people are there, from every nation, tribe and language, and they will reign. They are not like Him, but have been made like Him, through His sufferings and His great love for them.

All glory belongs to JESUS, the Lamb on the throne, the Lion of Judah, for only He is worthy.

  1. Michael says:

Just to be clear, only the slain Lamb is worshipped in Revelation—never the Lion. Christians are never called to follow in the footsteps of the Lion. In Revelation, conquering is what binds together Jesus and his followers (3:21 ). “Conquering” in both cases, that of the Christ and that of Christians, means no more or less than dying. It never in Revelation designates any destructive judgment on the enemies of Christ or Christians. All that was anticipated in terms of the nationalistic and militaristic apocalyptic symbol of the Lion of the tribe of Judah has been transformed and fulfilled in the Lamb.
Only the Lamb sits on God’s throne because only the Lamb reveals God’s true character.

    • words and signs says:

The picture of the lion and the lamb are both the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone is worthy of all praise, for He has redeemed His people to God. He is the conquering Saviour and the final judge. All His enemies will be destroyed, those who forget and reject God, and sin will be forever gone.
We must ensure we are in His eternal kingdom, by repenting of sin and giving our lives to Him….
