As we get really excited (or not!) about the near approach of Christmas, the good feelings of kindness and good-humour are around. The shops sing out the usual Christmas songs, the television has all the usual Christmas films, and the streets are as dirty as ever… we can feel tired of it all, and find it difficult to see beyond Christmas day.
The baby in the manger isn’t even noticed, the message is drowned out by santa songs and our need of fulfilment is trivialised. We have to push aside the glitter and the hype and look again at the small body in the manger- who is this? why did he come to such a place as this? Has this meaning for me?
“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” 1 Timothy 1:15
This was written by the most amazingly godly man who ever lived, the Apostle Paul. He says the message is for everyone, and should have our full attention, because it is true.
JESUS, the baby in the dirty shed, is the HOLY GOD and he came into our ruined world to save people. What people?
Everyone who believes and puts all their faith in him. We cannot earn it, or do anything to get it, but to seek Him earnestly and rest on his reliable love.
Paul was the worst… “I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man…”
Yet God forgave him everything and lifted him up to serve Him in wonderful ways. Only God can do this…
“The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.”
As God poured out grace on Paul, so he will pour it out on you. JUST BELIEVE…
