Trust in the Lord and do good;

dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.

 Take delight in the Lord,

and he will give you the desires of your heart.

 Commit your way to the Lord;

trust in him and he will do this:

He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn,

your vindication like the noonday sun.

 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;

do not fret when people succeed in their ways,

when they carry out their wicked schemes.

 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;

do not fret—it leads only to evil.

For those who are evil will be destroyed,

but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land.

Walking on water

JESUS had just fed over 5,000 people with a packed lunch donated by a small boy. He also sent the Disciples out to sea. JESUS takes himself apart from all around him and climbs the mountain, to pray and have fellowship with the Father.

Meanwhile, the disciples were in great trouble, far out in the middle of the Sea of GALILEE, because a powerful storm had blown up and was causing huge waves to toss the boat about and made it hard to control. They were so tired from the struggle, and in the darkness, around 3 o’clock in the morning, they noticed a human-shaped figure coming towards them. The disciples in their terror cried out that it was a ghost come to whisk them away to death..

JESUS speaks to his disciples. He knows they are afraid

“Don’t be afraid, have courage, I am here with you…”
The wind and waves were still churning, and really, they were more concerned about that, except one of them….
Peter is the one who calls out first. He shouts across the waves,
“Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”

JESUS tells him to come to him.. What would you do? Would you step out onto the water?

Peter had faith to leave the boat and trust JESUS to keep him on the top of the water and not drown in the depths of the sea.

Would you have risked that? If you were in Peter’s shoes, what would you do?

Perhaps you have heard about JESUS when you come to church or the outreach meetings, and it rings true, but you are finding it difficult to trust what JESUS is saying to you. Maybe you feel in a similar position to Peter. In fact, everyone who comes to JESUS finds themselves in this position. A position of wondering and doubt, but wanting to believe…but not being sure…

Peter stepped over the edge to go to his Saviour. He did believe. He could see JESUS, the one he loved the most, and he exercised his faith in him, and stepped out.

This is a great picture of what it means to believe. The troubles of life were still there, the raging of problems and unbelief were still there, but Peter stepped out. It was the first step…

He walked on the water to JESUS… Peter’s faith held up. He was walking to JESUS…
BUT… he looked at the storm, he heard the wind howling, the terror gripped his heart again, and his faith failed….

Peter had to learn, that his faith was not sufficient. His eyes had looked at the waves, and had taken away his amazing faith. So with us also. Whatever trust I think I have in JESUS, it will fail. I am not able to save myself by just hoping against hope that I will have enough faith to please JESUS and to keep me walking with Him.

Peter is sinking…drowning…

BUT Peter does the right thing…. he calls out to JESUS – 3 words.

“SAVE ME, LORD!”

JESUS heard him. Even though Peter had failed, JESUS loved him and reached out and lifted him up and rescued him from certain drowning. The love of CHRIST for sinful people is beyond understanding. He saves all those who call out to him, from a sincere heart. I am not able to save myself, but I know He is able….

Peter needed the rescue of JESUS desperately…. he could see there was no other hope for him. He calls out in deep need…. It is the same for us. We need JESUS. We need forgiveness – rescue – life-saving help for our souls, and when we realize that, it is a good state to be in.

I need JESUS now…

When I call out JESUS is right there to help me and He gives me the faith to trust him.

JESUS calmed the storm, and everyone could see who He is… We need to trust Him and call out for rescue from the storms of our sinful lives. He will rescue us, just like he did for Peter.

One GOD One salvation

IMG_4952 The truth about the Trinity, is stated in scripture as a mystery, and is taught in various situations and statements. The living GOD is the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit- equal in their power and glory. It is only human ideas that make them more or less important than each other.

The three persons who are the trinity, live and operate together in perfect union and accord. The relationships are completely LOVE- each person submitting to the will of the other. There is no disagreement, but perfect peace and joy between each person in the one whole.

This is how we were supposed to relate to God, and each other, but the faith and love of humans failed, right at the very beginning.

Can we get it back?

Yes… JESUS came to fulfil the will of his father, and redeem a countless number of people for himself. The Holy Spirit lives in the life of every Christian, and teachers them the way of God. Some day, all things will be complete, and all Gods people will be finally saved, and brought to dwell with the three persons of the trinity, in total peace and joy. Each one will be fully themselves and completely perfect and free from sins.

How shall we escape if we ignore so great a salvation?

More than curious

The authorities were more than curious to know by who’s name and who’s power Peter and John had healed the man who had never walked…

Peter was adamant and full of the power of the Holy Spirit said all was done in the NAME of JESUS. The same JESUS they had crucified and killed, who rose from the dead on the third day, as He himself had predicted.

JESUS was the rejected one, the dethroned king and the humiliated Lord of heaven and earth. Now he was the crucial and load-bearing Cornerstone. Now He was exalted above all and the only one who could save from sin and certain punishment.

The authorities had murdered the only Saviour, denigrated him to suffer complete shame, but now the rejected one is their only hope in the face of life and death.

The seemingly weak man was now stronger than any force imaginable, and far above any NAME that has ever or will ever be named…

JESUS, our Saviour and the love of all His redeemed people…

He rose from the dead, so that I will also be raised…

Those who trust in Him and love Him with heart, soul and mind, will know the joy of true life. Resurrection life is promised and will certainly happen when the trumpet sounds and the graves open as the dead return to physical life.

For those who belong to JESUS, there will be unspeakable joy and happiness, as sins are finally conquered and overflowing life will run out from redeemed bodies.

We are sure of this because HE ROSE from the grave. Death could not hold Him- the Prince of life.

The stone could not hold Him in- it was rolled out of the way.
He stepped out of death into LIFE forevermore…

The keys of death are in His belt and everlasting life belongs to His people.
People who repent of their wrong and follow him in FAITH will rise to eternal life…

In the twilight

Surely there was no misery like this.

Her Lord and truly beloved had been killed in front of her eyes and was dead and buried… The end of the game… He broke his word.

She so trusted in him and believed in the new life forever with him, but look how it ended- agony, loneliness and death.

As she walked to the tomb early on Sunday morning her thoughts consumed her and those circular mind processes, that lead downwards into the grave, had taken hold. In the darkness, not even the light of the moon helped to brighten the scene.

The dark silhouette of a figure walked towards her.

Instantly she suspected the worst. This was a soldier, stealing away the body of her Lord. Her mind raced – How could he! – the corpse was all she had left – had he no pity..!

He stopped, just out of arms length… “Mary” he said. Before the last syllable had struck the air, she knew. She sank to the earth and stretched out glad hands to grasp his feet.

“Not yet, Mary, I will see my Father first.”

The joy Mary felt at that moment never left her again. He had kept his promise and he was who she knew him to be.

Everything was now different and different forever.

She didn’t need to hold on to him, he was right with her now and forever…

Raging monster

The ocean churns and the wind whips it into a raging monster. No swimming today…
No one can stop the waves as they crash against the shore and grind the stones into fine sand. The water looks brown as the sand below gets mangled up in the water and the whole mass of matter is beaten and churned into sea soup…

We look at the power of such things- the weather and the massive elements that make our Earth, and wonder at our own smallness and lack of ability to control them. Some of these elements are so powerful they can take away life and decimate whole communities in a short space of time. God is all powerful. His strength is truly awesome.

Psalm 104 says:
“He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. But at your rebuke the waters fled, at the sound of your thunder they took to flight; they flowed over the mountains, they went down into the valleys, to the place you assigned for them.”

He alone controls these mighty entities and all must bow to Him… And yet we don’t. We forget, overlook and ignore him and his works.

How then will we see the work of his Spirit and understand our need of Him?

The picture of the man on the cross who died in such shame, is the true sight of the power of God. Such weakness and such monumental glory.
He died so that we would not have to. Believing in him is real power, the power to repent and humble ourselves before him…
