Mercy failure?

The mercy of the LORD is comprehensive. There are no limits for the people who love Him, and he will keep us as we travel along in the depths.
As we walk the dark valley, his mercy is right there, even though we might not know it or feel it. Faith keeps walking regardless.
No one knows how long that valley is- a shorter time or a longer time- the future is kept secret from us. He will decide its depth and duration and deliver us at the right time.
Keep learning the lessons and his presence will become more obvious as we become adept at using our spiritual weapons, learned only in that dark place.
“How great the Father’s love for us…!”

Living water

JESUS was on a long walking journey, when He stopped for a rest at an ancient well in Samaria.

The Lord of heaven and earth was tired and thirsty, amd had to stop for a drink..!

A woman from the town came out to the well to get water. She was not with the other women, because they did not consider her good enough to be around them. Yet JESUS was waiting for her and when she came to draw water, he asked her for a drink of water.

She was very supprised, as JESUS was a Jew and Jews and Samaritans had no love for each other. Racist tensions kept people apart and prejudice fed the hatred in human hearts. She didn’t know how JESUS was going to get water, as He had no rope or bucket… But JESUS offered her LIVING WATER…

This water is a spring of everlasting life, within a person, and invigorates their lives- bring eternal life forever. It is life that brings us to God and we can know Him in our lives and we follow JESUS to be like him.

JESUS showed her that he is the Messiah. She believed and ran to the town to tell others.

This is what God does in a persons life, he shows us our weaknesses and sins, and forgives us, giving LIVING WATER that bubbles up inside us and invigorates and refreshes us every day. We become alive to God and His Holy Spirit comes to live in us.

All we have to do is BELIEVE…

Sharper

“What God has said is sharper than any double-edged sword. His word can cut through our spirits and souls and through our joints and marrow, until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts.” Hebrews 4:12

This is why we avoid going to church, or club, or talking with Christian friends, because what they say hurts and makes us wonder about what we are doing…

God word will always cause an effect. If I am a Christian, I will want to hear it, so that I can learn how to do the right thing, and stop doing wrong. If I am not a Christian, it will make me uncomfortable and I will have the desire to turn away and stop listening. Or I will face up to my sinfulness and the wrong that I do and say, and repent… that’s when I become a Christian…!!

This is why God gives us his Word, and his love rescues us from the wrong in our lives…

Overwhelmed

An account of an event recorded by Matthew the disciple.

JESUS did many amazing deeds in the community, and taught lessons that only God could teach.

A young man came to JESUS to ask a crucial question. He is trying to live his life so that he is good enough for heaven, so he asks JESUS what he has to do, so that he is can be good enough to get in.

The young man recognizes JESUS is good, as he has heard about the amazing miracles, and the stories of kindness that happen everywhere JESUS goes.

“What do I have to do?” he asks

JESUS replies, “keep the commandments..” This seems strange at first, as we cannot keep the commandments, but this young man thinks he is good enough. JESUS knows the heart of this young man and his motivations.

JESUS tells him, not to hate, be a faithful person, don’t steal, tell lies, or disrespect our parents, and love other people as you love yourself. Quite a list…

Incredibly, The young man thinks he as kept all these.

Is he being honest with himself?

Why has he come to JESUS?

The young man is really just seeking reassurance and approval for JESUS, for his behaviour.

JESUS shows the young man where he has gone wrong and tells him to sell everything he possesses and come in just his coat, and follow Him.

The young man couldn’t do it. JESUS showed him the one thing in his life that was keeping him from heaven, and the young man couldn’t give his money up, and it came between him and the LORD JESUS. He turned away.

JESUS let him go. JESUS watched him turn his back and walk away, with a great sadness.

What holds you back?

  • A group of people you want to be a part of?
  • Places you want to go to that are bad for you?
  • Habits that have got hold of you and you are trapped by them?
  • A boy you like? A girl you like?
  • Wanting to have control over your life, and other peoples lives?

If we want JESUS, we have to let it all go. He is first…

JESUS gave up everything for our sakes, and suffered and died on a cruel cross to pay for our sins. Faith in him is the only way to heaven, not through good deeds. The young man threw it all away for some money. Such a foolish choice. He lost his soul and eternity, for things that get broken and who’s value does not last.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?” Matthew 16

These are the questions whos answers determine whether we have joy or pain, forgiveness or blame, everlasting life or everlasting death.

We have no record that this young man ever had the opportunity again to speak with JESUS or that he ever trusted Him for forgiveness and a new life.

Don’t turn away… You don’t have to turn away sad and unforgiven, as he did.
