Have you ever been to a funeral? Have you ever been to a funeral of your mother, father? A brother or sister- someone you loved…

It is a very difficult experience. Death is the end of life. It is inevitable. 100% success rate… Everyone dies and is hurt by death, even when we are alive. It is called the LAST ENEMY. Of all the difficulties we face in our lives, death is the last and the most difficult. It can mean fear, hurt, regret, loss, betrayal, sorrow… these are the sting of death… these are the result of sin…

This story about an event when JESUS was here on earth, is only found in Luke’s gospel. This particular woman had one son, the one who was now in the coffin, and there was no hope of her having another, as she was a widow. It was a devastating scene… Jesus came into this situation, and he knew the problems exactly. He could identify with the woman who was mourning for her dead son.

Hopeless

Jesus sees the woman and his heart is filled with compassion for her. He feels her loss and the pain of the effects of death. He knew he would also taste death and feel it’s sting, and he could feel deeply for her. In the presence of death, it seems hopeless… This was a no win situation, and the battle had already been lost.

Impossible

Jesus says to her, “Don’t cry..”

It seems a funny thing to say… why should she not cry…! She has lost the last remaining part of her family, and she is now alone in the world and the light of her life has gone out – her precious son… These words tell us that JESUS is not the Lord of misery. JESUS brings peace and joy- He is the one who dispells sorrow – the only one. He loves us. This is the first part of the comfort: DONT CRY….I AM HERE….

JESUS walks up to the coffin.

The religion said that a clean person could not touch the unclean…. But Jesus had often touched the lepers- they were unclean. He touched them and they were made well- clean again..!! JESUS IS DIFFERENT

He is the only one worthy to save the dying and raise the dead, as only He is able to defeat death and take the penalty for sin onto himself.

He did this. His perfect life can give life to the dead. When He touches the unclean, they become clean. So, the carriers of the coffin stopped.

JESUS speaks loudly to the young man inside the coffin. “Young man, I say to you, get up!”

What is JESUS doing….. The young man is dead….! But the young man obeys and sits up, and starts to speak..! I wonder what he said…? Maybe he asked for the grave clothes to be taken off him. Take the bands of my face!! Jesus helps him off the coffin and gives him back to his mother. What a joyful day that turned out to be. She went to bury her son and instead he was raised from the dead…

 The Saviour: JESUS

It was not the raising of a physical body, but the resurrection of an eternal soul. JESUS can raise our physical bodies easily… To raise our souls is another matter.

All of us here are dead in our natural selves. Our bodies are alive, and we think we are alive, but our souls are dead. We do not want God, love God, or even know what it is like to know Him. We think the good things we have are enough, but there is so much more. We are missing the crucial part of ourselves. Our bodies many be alive, but our souls are dead. The inner crucial part of me that lives forever one way or another, the part of me that knows and feels and loves God, and the most important part of how God made me.

Like this young man who lies dead in the coffin, so also do we.

JESUS calls us. He calls to you tonight to “GET UP!” Waken up to the real. Be alive to God.! JESUS is the Resurrection and the LIFE. If you believe Him and do what he says… you will

GET UP…. You will become alive tonight…?  Will you get up?

Will you answer the call of JESUS to be alive….

When you do awake, you will have a new life and you will know that before, you were not really living at all. Everything will change, and you will actually KNOW GOD KNOW JESUS   KNOW THE HOLY SPIRIT… This is what a Christian is… It will be a life of great joy (not easy) and will last past this life into eternity. You will start to walk with God as soon as you waken up…

Will you hear and answer and walk with Him?

The Saviour JESUS is the only one who can waken you from your sleep of death. With your physical ears you hear my voice telling you these things, and Gods voice speaks to you in your inner self… If you resist him, you will stay dead. If you put it off, he might never speak to you again…. that’s very scary.. If you decide for this life, you will die and there will be no resurrection for eternal life. It’s quite an easy message really. Straightforward.

Life or death.

When you are aware of God calling you, and you see your need of him, do what he says….

GET UP…

Lettsom Inn wishes you a great start to 2016 and hoping your year is filled with good things.

“So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”  Psalm 90:12

Every day remember it is another gone by, and we can gain wisdom when we think like God thinks.

“In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.”  Proverbs 16:9

Whatever your plans, remember God is in charge of every day.

“You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance.”  Psalm 65:11

All good things are from God.

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves.  He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”  Zephaniah 3:17

God’s love for you is certain and he will lift you up.

Pay up

The systems of this world are always interested in our money. We have to pay for stuff we buy, pay taxes when we work, and pay for all the activities we do. If you haven’t got money, you will find it hard to belong.

The enemies of God asked Jesus if they should pay their taxes. It was a clever question to try to trap Jesus into saying the wrong thing. Instead, Jesus pointed the question back to them and challenged them in a way that only He can do.

Jesus asked for a coin (He didn’t have one!!) He showed the people the picture on it. Who is this? Caesar? Then give to Caesar what is Caesars, and to God what is Gods. What is God’s- we are, He made us and gives us life, wether we recognise it or not.

This world asks for your cash- God asks for your whole self…

When we give ourselves to Him, we loose all, and yet gain everything. To give up or lives to Him, means that we get so much more in return….

Give to this world its dues, but not your life and soul.

Give God what is his anyway, and we will find everything.

Confidence

We can find ourselves in situations where we bolster our sense of weakness with other things around us. Hanging around with the dangerous crowd, can give a sense belonging and protection from others. If we dress a certain way, it makes us think we belong to the “right” kind of crowd, and the music we listen to helps us to identify with whatever happens to be popular.

The truth is much more straightforward and anyone can enter into the strength and confidence given by someone outside our circle. If I trust in the LORD, and put Him up as number one in my life, it will give me protection and support forever. As I give up myself, so I gain strength and power to walk along the right path to life.

Hope and confidence comes for GOD. I might think if comes from something else, but it is only a passing fashion. Those who put all their confidence in the LORD, will be permanent trees by the rivers of living water. Nothing will move you, and you will thrive and become strong in character and rightness…

MARK 12:28-34

One of the teachers of the law came and heard them (Sadducees) debating. He was a Scribe and very familiar with the OT scriptures. They were debating with Jesus, about the Resurrection of the dead, and about marriage. They talked about a situation where dead people still regarded as being married, and that they were still married in Heaven. Jesus says there is no marriage in heaven. Jesus says the Sadducees are in the wrong.

Jesus tells them they do not know the scriptures…

(A Scribe standing listening,) notices that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” The man is intrigued by Jesus and His deep insight. He really wants to hear more and asks a question outside what the Sadducees are asking.

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’f Deut 6:4

Who can do this? What human being is up to this?

This LOVE is a spiritual love, a deep and abiding one that loves God completely and seeks close relationship with Him. This is a heart that recognizes God is One and only, and only he is worthy of the full love of heart, soul, mind and strength- ALL OF US, OUR WHOLE BEING.

We cannot do this or want this by ourselves… Why? God will require me to give up stuff, change, be different…. I am afraid of this, and the social pressure around me, makes me avoid it. Only God can work this in my heart…. I should search for it… pray for it…

The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Lev 19:18

If I am loving God, I am loving those around me…. My Mum, Dad, brother, sister, for instance. We don’t want to do this most of the time, as they are really annoying..!!

I think I can love my friends a bit, but not those people….!

People at school who gossip against me, say things that put me down…

Teacher who pick on me…. Think I am stupid… even say it..!

God says, I must treat others as I would like to be treated.

Jesus did not say I can give as good as I get… Treat the people in my life, as I would like to be treated. If people treat me badly, I must treat them as I would like to be treated…. well, with respect and for their good.

This is also impossible without God working in my heart.

“Well said, teacher,” the man replied. “You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him. To love him with all your heart, with all your understanding and with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is more important than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”

Knowing God and loving God is about a holy life, not making outward sacrifices. Plenty of people give money, time, effort to serving God, but that is not what saves us, or makes us a friend of God. Knowing God is a heart thing, a total surrender to Him with every part of your being. It’s the losing all to gain it all…

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” Jesus recognizes that the man really sees the truth. The man has spoken out, when the others with Him are against Jesus. He is brave and is very excited by what he sees and understands. God has revealed it to him. Jesus sees that the man is almost there in his journey to God.

Surely the man is there? Well, he has seen the truth, he understands, but now he has to take it into himself and actually live the life of FAITH, in this amazing God.

You need to live the life, and love God and others, with a full heart.

And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

The scribe who understood was almost in the kingdom, but not quite. He had heard, seen, understood, deeply affected, but He needed to hand over all of his life to God, and rest his whole life on the Lord Jesus. Having fuzzy feelings about it and saying to your self… some day I will come… is a dangerous strategy. You do not know your future, the desires you have now to seek Jesus and trust Him, will go, if you don’t act. You will not always want Him or to even listen to Him…

The truths will fade away and be replaced.

The obstacles that keep you from Jesus will get bigger.

If you see like this man has seen, come to Jesus, put your trust and hope in Him. You know he is able… Don’t let the fear of others, land you in a place of terror. If God is speaking to you, if the Holy Spirit is showing you this is true … answer Him, come to Him, believe and live for Him.
