Satan falling…

JESUS spells out who Satan is…

JESUS tells them that he saw Satan fall from heaven…!

This event happened before the earth was made, or any people… Yet the Lord Jesus Christ was there. This is another instance where we see who he is… He is the eternal God, they judge of humans, demons and Satan himself.

Who is Satan?

Satan was the most glorious being that God ever made. Beautiful, powerful and glorious. This held the problem of his destruction. Satan believed he was above God and could compete with God. He was filled with PRIDE- the first and most dreadful of all sins.

That tendency is within us too….The competitive spirit that leads us to put others down, belittle people, try to be in charge of everything. This was Satan’s heart.

He said to himself…”I am going to be equal with God…” A deadly ambition… Foolish in the extreme.

A desire not from God, therefore sinful, and God will not allow this in his presence. Satan was cast out doomed to roam the earth that was to be made, and lead its inhabitants into the darkness with himself.

Is Satan in charge?

Satan might seem to be victorious, but he is already beaten. He knows his time is limited, and is seeking to take revenge out on God’s people. He wants to keep the unbeliever dead in sin, and therefore doomed. If you are not a Christian, he will try to keep you blind to the truth, and asleep in your spiritual deadness.

Why is Satan like this?

Satan hates Human’s simply because God loves us… that might seem mean and petty but that’s what he is like.

There is no salvation for him or his demons…. He rages…against God and against Christians.

If you are a Christian, he can do nothing to you at all. The best he can do is upset you, blame you, put you down, tell you lies which might sound real, get you to stop looking to JESUS and get worried about what Satan will do to you..! Take your JOY…

JESUS knows all this, he was there, and he walked this earth suffering the effects of Satan’s influence on us.

But he says, you can trample on snakes, and overcome all the power of the enemy…!

NOTHING WILL HARM YOU…   A huge promise!!

 How wonderful are these encouragements.

But there is more and better encouragements.

JESUS tells us that our number one comfort and source of praise, the FACT that our names are written in heaven.

This is the main point today. Satan is beaten already. He has fallen from his perfect state, and he has lost all his power.

How is Satan beaten?

The cross….Jesus took the punishment and love overcame hatred…

Is he beaten in your life yet? Are you vulnerable?

The love of JESUS is personal…

Is you name written in heaven?

It doesn’t mean that there are literal books and pens, God does not need such things to remember, but is your name as it were in the register in heaven, so that your place there is certain? God knows everyone who belongs to HIM…

Your name can only get on that list because of what JESUS did on the cross. HAVE you have believed in him and confessed and trusted in that sacrifice he made.?

A hot brush scrapes the face
Sensation of anger and disgrace
A warning marker to turn away
Quieten the heart and obey.
A tightness in the chest breeding grief
A heart seeking sweet relief
Let it go and rest as a child
Avoid the inclination wild.
Let it go.
Let Gods Spirit seep within
Washing out the stains of sin.
Seek the love of Christ
Forgiveness, eternal life.

Death of a TEENAGER

Posted: March 11, 2016 in Death of a teenager

deadraiser-explores-resurrection-stories-across-america-and-those-who-believe-that-christians-have-the-power-to-raise-the-dead

It is a tragedy when a young person dies.

There are teenager in our community who have had their lives cut short, some by sickness and some by violence. When a young person is murdered, it makes the newspapers, or even the TV news. It is a tragedy when a life ends sooner than it should.

In the West, there is violence and killing, and teenagers are murdered, it happens in Britain and also in USA… Other countries have death too. Teenagers conscripted into wars, forced to kill or be killed, and teenagers, who contract diseases that end their lives.

Death has a 100% success rate, we know that in our heads, but it seems such a waste to be taken away so quickly, without having a life to live.

Today we have a teenager who is dying of a disease. LUKE 8: 40-56

40Now when Jesus returned, a crowd welcomed him, for they were all expecting him. 41Then a man named Jairus, a synagogue leader, came and fell at Jesus’ feet, pleading with him to come to his house 42because his only daughter, a girl of about twelve, was dying.

While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” he said. “Don’t bother the teacher anymore.”

50Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”

51When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. 52Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,” Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.” 53They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!” 55Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened.

A leader in the synagogue, A Pharisee? Came in a terrible state to seek help from Jesus. He actually got down on the ground at Jesus feet. He grovelled on the floor, because his own daughter was at home dying. The doctors were no good. The religious leaders were no good. Jairus was desperate…. His teenage daughter was about to die, and he was distraught.

We are not given an answer from Jesus. Jesus heard the man, but didn’t hurry quickly to the sick teenager. In fact, Jesus stopped to cure another person who was in that crowd of people that day. He did not hurry. He did not fret. “Do not fret it leads only to evil..” The evil of lack of faith..

Jairus maybe felt impatient and panicky. Jesus would not hurry up…!!

As Jesus spoke to the second person her had just healed, someone, a servant, came from Jairus’ house.. Jairus knew what the message was even before it was said. His heart sank into his sandals. It with the worst possible news. The daughter was dead. He told Jairus to not bother Jesus any more. IT’s too late… We can only imagine the effect of this news on Jairus…

If only Jesus had come when I asked… If only he had hurried up…

Before Jairus could think too much about this catastrophic event, Jesus turned to him and spoke. Jesus knew what he was going to think even before he thought it..!

“Don’t be afraid, just believe. And she will be healed…”

But she can’t be healed, she is dead! It’s all over..! There is no hope..

Jairus does not really know who Jesus is… He is the living word, The living water, The authour of all life.. He alone holds the keys of death and hell at his belt…

JESUS holds our lives in his hands… He decided when we would be born, and when we will die. He knows all about this teenager, and he is in complete control. No one can slip through his control, or escape from the truth that God is in control of everything. We may not want him to be, we want to be in charge, but we cant.! Even today, things have happened to us that we did not choose. Good things and bad things. It live life without the knowledge of a loving and powerful God, is full of fear. We have to try to work everything out so that we stay in control. We have to fight to stay on top…!

To live as God wants us to live, trusting in Him, and depending on is power, is the way of peace. Even if I fight to get to the top, how can I stay there? not everyone in this world can be on top… This is the way of the world.. God’s way is different… to be great in His kingdom means to live a humble and sacrificial life, “at the bottom” of this worlds pile.

So Jesus tells Jairus, that the miracle is dependant on his faith, not on him as a person. It is Jesus who heals and saves the sick soul. Jesus does not have special regard for “important looking people” We all must come to Him in humble faith, looking to Him only. Jesus tells us not to be afraid, when we trust in Him. He is able. But if we are not trusting Him, or we don’t belong to Him, there is a very real fear. And so there should be. To be found without Christ, is to be found without protection and salvation in the face of a God who is angry with sin, and who promises punishment for it.

So it is the same with us. When we need forgiveness, and a resurrection for our souls, we must believe in Him. He will give the new life that we need, because he has bourn the burden of punishment for us.Lingering in fear and trembling, is no good. If we just believe, we will get eternal life.

Jesus went with Jairus to his house. There were people mourning and lamenting the death of this young girl. Jesus tells them to stop wailing..! The girl is only asleep…! They all knew the girl was dead, and they laughed at Jesus, because everyone knows there is no way back from the dead.!

When you are dead, you are dead..! When your heart stops beatingand you are not breathing… you are dead.. Jesus went into the house with Peter, John and James, and Jairus and his wife. Jesus takes the young girl’s hand and says,

“My child, get up”

4 words: not a performance, sprinkling water, endless words from a religious book….

The girls spirit returned to her body, and she got up and stood up… Death is not just about not breathing and no heat beat. These are about our body, but our body is not the main part of us. Our spirit or our soul leaves us and goes to another place. We live on after we die. We go somewhere else out of this world.

This girl came back from the dead. She came back from that place. We are not told much about it, but we must be ready to be there. Jesus says that so often – it is the number one paramount thing we need to do in or lives. This girl died very young – a teenager – her life was just staring out and suddenly it was over. It reminds us that life is a fleeting time..

For us, we must be ready. When we believe, we are brought into a new life. A spiritual life so that we can live in heaven. Without this life, we are dead in our sins, and are insensible to God. We only have physical life, but as we know, that ends. For this teenager, in ended very quickly. This is a word of pleading to us, to come to Jesus while there is still time. Just as he raised the young teen, he will raise you too. He calls the girl “my child..” How great to belong to Him. That girl was never the same again, and she had real food, that would sustain her right into the paths of heaven. The girl and all her family received such a blessing. When God forgives and raises a person, it affects their family too.

Jesus tells the parents to give her something to eat. She has been through quite an ordeal. And now the family can share together again.

Jesus tells the family to keep the events quiet.. but people down through the generations of time have heard this story, as you do today. Listen and obey when JESUS calls you to wake up from your dead soul…

The street woman

Posted: February 18, 2016 in The street woman

oil flask

This story takes place in a house at a fairly fancy dinner party.

Simon the Pharisee invites Jesus to dinner. Jesus is now well known and Simon thinks it would look good to have Jesus in his house.

JESUS comes to the dinner party and joins the other guests at the table. Jesus knows why he has been invited, and he knows the intention of every heart.

A street woman from the town hears that Jesus is at this dinner, and she goes along too. She brings a jar of perfume, the one precious thing she owns. She kneels at Jesus feet, washes them with her tears and wipes them with her hair.

  1. Who is JESUS is the holy God come into the world as a man. He has made everything, and the whole story of human history is about HIM. He is the SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD.
  1. Who was this woman? She is a woman who lived on the street, she worked for her money in an immoral way. She has been used by men and abused by them most of her life. She lived a life full of shame and knowing other people looked down on her… A social outcast…no one invited her to their house. No one allowed their children to play with her children. She was regarded as the lowest of the low… People disregarded her and she had little regard for herself…
  1. Who was Simon? A well respected Pharisee, who obeyed the law of God to the tiniest bit of herb..! very particular about doing the right thing, as he saw it. He knew the OT law so well and he relished in the fact that he was a Pharisee and everyone looked up to him. People stopped and admired him in the street as he prayed in the street corners. People asked him to pray for them. He was regarded as a holy man.

Who is the problem in this story? The problem in this story is not the woman.

The problem is Simon the Pharisee, and Jesus loves him. Jesus loves all people and is not willing that any should go into destruction. Jesus is going to teach Simon a lesson he will not learn in the synagogue.

The woman comes to the dinner party and starts to weep at Jesus feet. Her tears fall, and she uses her hair to wipe Jesus feet.

She has brought with her a precious jar of perfume. It was a small jar made from Alabaster and inside is some very expensive perfume.

She would have saved up her money to buy this- and to keep it – like a pension savings, so that she would have money when she couldn’t work any more.

Jesus knew why she did this. He knew she truly loved him and this was an amazing sacrifice she was making for him. Jesus knew her heart, even when others didn’t.

The other guests were full of judgment. Simon didn’t say anything, but Jesus knew his thoughts. Simon despised the woman.

But Jesus knew those thoughts and the motivations behind them too…

Jesus tries to help Simon.

Jesus tells a story about two people who go to the money lender to borrow money.

They have gone short of cash and try to borrow some more.

Today it might be Wonga..!
One borrows £10 the other borrows £10,000
But the situation arose where neither were able to pay the money back. They couldn’t pay Wonga back!
Wonga, unrealistically wipes their debts out.!!
£10 doesn’t have to be paid
£10,000 doesn’t have to be paid.
Jesus asks Simon Who loves the money lender more?
£10,000 as it is the most!!! This person will love the most and be most grateful.
Simon understands. He says, the one who owed the most, will love the most…
Jesus turns to the woman…. Look what she has done for me today.
Washed my feet
Dried them with her hair
Kissed my feet because she loves me…
Anointed me with precious expensive oil….

You have not done these things…!   WHY?

Jesus is trying to show Simon what is missing…
Simon has money, prestige, he has invited Jesus to the dinner, he listens to Jesus story… What’s missing?
Simon doesn’t love Jesus… all the things he is doing is really just for show….
Jesus looks at the woman. She has humbled herself and risked the criticism for showing her love for Jesus.

JESUS SAYS:

“Your sins are forgiven..” Lets get this the right way round. The woman was forgiven, and because she was forgiven, she loved Jesus and showed her love to everyone.

She was not forgiven because she anointed Jesus with the expensive perfume.. She gave Jesus everything, because she had been forgiven by him…

How wonderful to be such a person…

If you are a Christian, you will know what this means. You will know in your heart and in your life what it means to love Jesus, and to be loved by Him… It is the greatest thing.

The people listening to Jesus, were full of cynicism and unbelief. They were offended at Jesus – who does he think he is…

They couldn’t see Jesus love for the woman, and they couldn’t see her love for him.

Jesus does not leave the woman sad, or regretful. He lifts her up and says “Your faith has saved you… go in peace…”

She has given Jesus everything she had, and she has not lost out.

She has peace with God. She knows the Lord Jesus and no one can take that away from her.

She went home rejoicing.

People will want to make you doubt, or make you want to go along with them, but, if you know Jesus, you will follow him. People at school, at home might pressurize you or criticize you for trying to follow Jesus, but Jesus will keep you and give you the strength to follow Him.
What about the other people at the dinner party?
They can’t get over the fact, that Jesus accepts the woman, and not them. They think they have little sins. They think they are good.
They don’t need to anoint Jesus – they don’t really see who he is…
They left the party still judging and still thinking they were ok. God will accept them, because they are good enough.
God does not accept that idea at all.

God accepts all who come to him in faith. People who know they are sinful and admit it and ask for forgiveness. That’s all…

I wonder what you would give Jesus if he were here tonight?

Is there something you really value that you could give to show your love for him?

Jesus does not want presents, money, going to church, doing good deeds to be seen….Jesus wants you – your whole self.

That is the one thing I might not want to give… I might want to keep a bit back…

The woman in the story gave herself, and all her sin, and Jesus made her a clean person. The other things she gave were gifts of love to her Lord, because of what he had done…

Tonight, of course, Jesus IS HERE.

He is speaking to you through his word… will you come to Him?

Heaven

Posted: January 28, 2016 in Heaven

Heaven is a real place and the door stands open for all who will repent of their sins and sinful ways, and believe in the only Saviour, JESUS CHRIST.

He alone is able to forgive us and change our hearts so that we believe and live lives of FAITH. This is our intended state of being. This is where we are happiest and at peace with God and other people.

The alternative is no peace, punishment and sadness… Choose LIFE… Choose heaven…
