Luke 13:24-30 NIV
“Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Once the owner of the house gets up and closes the door, you will stand outside knocking and pleading, ‘Sir, open the door for us.’ “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’“But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’ “There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last.”

Naomi- migrant refugee

Version 2

Naomi lived in the land of Israel, she was one of God’s people. She loved and followed God with her husband Elimalech and two sons, Malon and Chilion. They decided to leave Israel, because there was a recession and there were no jobs or food, and it was getting very hard to live there.

Tragedy:

They settled in the land of Moab and Malon and Chillion married Moabite women. Life seemed much better there until tragedy struck…

Elimalech, Malon and Chillion died and Naomi was left alone. She must have wondered why God was doing these things in her life, and why she was experiencing so much tragedy. Maybe she began to blame herself for what had happened, and maybe she thought God was against her or even punishing her.

Naomi had no means of financial support now, and was in danger of loosing her home and she certainly did not have a lot to eat, or to keep her warm.

She had her two daughters-in-law Ruth and Orpah, but there were not from the Israelite people. They did not understand the ways of God, although she had told them about the God of Israel many times. Even so she had to rely on them for her daily needs. Maybe she felt bad about this, but they were both kind, and looked after their mother-in-law.

Naomi was glad for the comfort that her two daughters gave to her, and it helped her to cope with the sadness and loss that she felt. She felt a strong desire to go back to her own people, and to find refuge and help from them. She thought of God and how she used to go to the temple and worship Him. She decided to return to Israel.

She told her daughters and said thank you to them for their kindness, but she wanted to go home. They were both heartbroken at this news, but Naomi comforted them and said they could go back to their own families. Orpah decided to do this and went back to the land of Moab.

Decision:

Ruth chose to go with Naomi to be part of God’s people.

She was very determined. “Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God, my God” (1:16).

Ruth became a blessing to her Mother- in –law and put her trust in the God of Israel. All those lessons about her Father in heaven had paid off and the times Naomi had spent talking to Ruth about trusting in God, had helped Ruth to put her trust in Him.

Naomi was too old to work, so Ruth had to go out to work, and it was hard work. Ruth gathered up corn from the fields as leftovers, so that she and Naomi could have food to eat. God gave Ruth the ability to do this work. It was hard and she and Naomi were very low down in the social scale of that society. Every day Ruth gleaned around the fields and brought the proceeds to Naomi.

God does provide for us, but it can be hard work, and might not be what we are looking for, but God is working in our lives and and he has a plan that we do not see…

Blessing:

Ruth met Boaz, a Israelite man, who fell in love with her, and she became his wife. This was no ordinary family… Their son Obed was the Grand-father of King David… Obed, Jesse, David… David is a direct ancestor of Jesus!!

The little Moabitess, the outsider, became part of the family of Jesus.

This is what God delights to do… God takes little and makes it much…

He takes people who are disregarded by this world, and makes them part of is royal family.

Those who trust in Him, are never sent away, or disregarded. We need to be whole-hearted about following Jesus…. He will lead us safely to heaven….

The fact that Naomi decided to leave Israel, is a decision that seemed to bring her much heartache, but God intended it for good.

Look at what happened…her husband died and he two sons died, leaving her with no family. She was unable to support herself, but this made her think of her God, and that she could trust Him. This is one of the reasons for trouble- so that we find ourselves depending on God and not ourselves.

When I have trouble, do I trust God, or try to just get out of it…?

He brought Ruth into His royal family and made her a member of the family of God like Naomi. Ruth had to make a choice, to go back to Moab, or to join God’s people. She followed the Lord, because of Naomi. Naomi was a good witness to Ruth. God changed Ruth’s heart, and she then followed Him.

Am I trusting in the Lord Jesus like Ruth? Have I turned from my old sinful life, and followed Him?

  • When others try to get me to leave Him and follow them, I will not go. I will stand firm for Jesus.?
  • When I am disappointed with life, and I have no energy to go on, I will look to Him and trust Him.?
  • When temptations come and the enemy wants to distract me from God, I will keep to the right way, and follow on.?
  • When I fail, I can come to Jesus and be forgiven and ask Him to make me strong in His love.?

The Christian life is a life walked with God, against all the things that come against us. Every Christian is a victorious person – we get the victory through JESUS.

We may face disappointments, pain, heartache, temptations, and failures in ourselves, but The Lord Jesus is able to bring us through, if we trust Him…

Jericho

The walls came down.

It was not the constant march around the city for a week.

It was not the mighty shout from the armies of the Lord.

It was not the blaring of the trumpets in triumphant salute to God.

It was the mighty power of the Living God, the undefeated strength of The God of heaven and earth. It was the work of the gracious Spirit who struck the hearts of the enemy with fear.

But, there was also the obedience of God’s people, who did what God required of them every day.

We all will have our personal Jericho’s. There will be insurmountable odds against us, and sufferings so great that we cannot face them, but if we are trusting in the Lord, we will overcome, in His power.

We need to belong to this God. We need to have our sins dealt with bow our knees to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Nothing else will do- no one else will do.

There is no salvation apart from Him.

“All the silver and gold and the articles of bronze and iron are sacred to the Lord and must go into his treasury.” Joshua 6:19

Everything belongs to the Lord, all glory and worship. The conquests we experience are because of His hand in our circumstances. All adoration is His, for he is the all-together lovely one…

How many chances left?

Posted: September 24, 2016 in How many chances left?

Luke 21: 34-38 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”

“How many chances left?”

When we hear God’s word, He speaks to us about our need of Him, and we start to see that we need forgiveness.

We don’t do anything about it.

We sit and listen again and again, and we don’t come to God.

God gives us many chances..

Maybe we think…

  • When I’m older and I’ve enjoyed myself…
  • When I understand more about the Bible
  • When I have had my life, then I’ll give the rest to God

God waits and waits for us..! The King of everything waits for us!!

God waits and gives us chances after chances to come to Him and seek forgiveness.

How many do you have left?

We know that some day we will die, and that will be the end of our chances to be forgiven. It will be too late for us after death comes.

Maybe we think that day is far away, and we can wait until we want to come, but we might not want to come. We might not want to hear God’s message any more… That would be a very serious state to be in.

That’s why God says come now…

But there is something else that is going to happen..

No one know when it will be, but the Bible tells us about signs that we can see that tell us when this massive event will happen….

JESUS IS COMING BACK to judge the word and to take those who love Him with all their hearts, to heaven forever.

Time will be over. Everything will be destroyed and there will be no more chance for anyone…

In the Bible it says that this event will be like a “thief in the night..” No one knows when a robber will come. The robber comes at night so that it will be a total surprise.. No one will know when he is coming and he will take everything when he comes.

When Jesus comes no one will expect it, and he will put an end to all evil, sin and take all his people away.

How will we know? What are the signs?

There will be frightening events in the sky- with the moon, the stars and planets. It will make people afraid because they will not understand it. God tells us in the Bible, so that we will know and be warned about it.

People will also be frightened about what is going on in the world.

  • The weather will be disturbed.
  • Wars and conflict will be everywhere.
  • There will be great wickedness in society.
  • People’s hearts will fail becuase they are so frightened.

At that unknown moment, Jesus will return. The clouds will split in two, and Jesus himself will come back to the earth He left.

When these things take place, there will be two kinds of responses by people.

  • There will be people who will be very afraid, because they will know who He is and they will know that all their chances are over. Its too late now. They will know its too late to be forgiven.
  • Other people will be so glad to see their Lord and Saviour. All their sufferings will be over and they will know that now they are going home to heaven to be with Jesus forever. It will be the best day of their lives..!

For the others it will be the worst day…

If you are trusting in Jesus, when this day happens, you will be able to stand up, lift up your heads, and know that you are His child and he will take you safely home.

All your troubles ended and only joy and glory agead of you.

Jesus said, “heaven and earth will pass away, but my word will not pass away.”

Some day the heavens and the earth will really pass away, but the promises of the Lord Jesus will never pass away.

Those who trust in Him, are safe, becuase He promises to keep them safe and take them to be with Him.

What should we be doing?

Jesus says, we should not be weighed down by the anxieties of life. We don’t need to worry if we are trusting him to keep us.

We might say to ourselves.. “Well Jesus will keep me safe…” We need to make sure we have actually come to Him and confessed our sins and asked Him to forgive us and make us new.

Its not just a hoping it is true, but we must actually out our trust in Him.

It not about saying a particular prayer of doing any deed or action, but simply putting all our hope in Jesus and no one else and living our lives in faith in Him.

Often people fill their lives up with getting things, giving all our time to activities we like, maybe going out and getting drunk, doing things we know are sinful, and these things cover up what we really need….

The enemy can use these things to keep you away from Jesus. He will tell you is all fake and its just about people trying to spoil you fun..

Jesus says, this day will close on people lives like a trap- suddenly and painfully and there will be no escape.

Its a terrible gamble to make with your soul..!

This event will affect everyone- living and dead, and there will be no exceptions.

Jesus tells us to watch for the signs and pray, so that when that great day comes, we will be able to stand…

Make sure you have put your faith in Jesus.

He is the only way to avoid the destruction at the end.

Jesus I need you

Don’t hit back

Luke 6:27-31 NIV
“……Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you …”

This teaching given to us by the Lord Jesus, does not fit into our modern mindset, nor would it be a practical way if living, especially in 21st Century school…!

When we read these words, this is the kind of thing we might think. We say to ourselves, “Jesus isn’t being practical here, He doesn’t know what I face. Jesus isn’t living in my world..”
Jesus is right here in the world, right now. He knows everything that happens and He knows everything we all think. He knows what is coming and He knows the outcome of everything. So when He tells us we should behave in a certain way, we need to listen.

When we feel attacked verbally or emotionally, we want to protect ourselves. We believe that if we give back as good as we get, then others will respect us. If we never retaliate, then people will pick on us and bully us. It’s a dog eat dog world and we need to join in the cycle of hatred of violence, so that we will not be hurt.

Jesus says we must pray for those who behave in an evil way towards us. We must be concerned for their spiritual state before Him. Jesus says He will keep us and protect us in every circumstance, but the problem is, we don’t believe Him. We don’t think He really knows or cares for us on that most basic level. It can’t be good if Christians get hurt, can it?

In other places in our world, Christians suffer this kind of oppression every day. They cannot retaliate and they loose everything, even their lives..! This is something we find very hard to understand- surely God cannot allow this? But He does. For every Christian there is the facing the fact that God will allow trouble of all kinds in our lives. He is in complete control. The question is- will we obey and go through the trouble, or justify another course of action.?

In return for the evil dished out to us, we are commanded to give good things- prayer, blessings, generosity and lack of blame or vengeance. This is how Christians shine in a wicked and perverse society. If we react like the general consensus, then there is no difference between the Believer and the unbeliever. But if I react as Jesus has taught me, I will stand out and be a beacon of hope and love to other people.

We would wish to be treated with kindness, forgiveness and without a vengeful spirit, therefore that is how I must behave towards everyone else.

When someone hurts me, abuses me in serious ways, often the difficulty is not the event that hurt, but the great amount if prayer and grace we need to actually forgive the person. Hurt is so hard to let go of and forgiveness is not in our human nature, but if Jesus tells us to do it, we must. This is the attitude of life and character of the Christian. It is the opposite of what we are told by this world system. It is difficult, but it leads to life and peace for all those who trust in Jesus and obey what He says.

Forgiveness depends on grace. Our forgiveness depends on the grace and love of Jesus, and also on our decision to forgive those who hurt us. This is the only way to walk with God. If We follow our own desires, and act and react in the light of our own mindset, we walk in darkness.

Molten metal laps laps on the shore
Steely blue and knife edge ripple
Covers the rock and sand
Below the cold body
That envelops all it touches
Night shock
Moonlit field of ploughed sea
A temporary aberration
Of liquid Prussian tint
Almost unmoving motion
Alien salted saltern
Fearful frozen palette
